Austria’s highest mountain towers above the picturesque holiday region
East Tyrol: the Großglockner, with an altitude of 3.798 m.
In this unique area which borders the South Tyrolean Pusteria valley,
guests will encounter an exceptionally beautiful holiday region.
An abundance of fresh air, a sound and widely untouched nature,
multifaceted sport and leisure time activities for young and old: this
is vacation everyone might wish for; this is a holiday in East Tyrol.
And the region presents itself accordingly colorful and diverse to its
guests. You can for instance experience fascinating wonders of nature in
Central Europe’s biggest national park Hohe Tauern which occupies
more than 1.800 square kilometers. Interesting nature trails, guided
trekking tours or exciting guided family excursions through the park,
only to name a few of the numerous possibilities to experience the
beauty of this unique paradise for birds and plants. Of course it is
also possible to explore this region on one’s one initiative. By foot
all the way up into the perpetual ice, on a trip to the famous
Krimmler falls or with the mountain bike to the neighboring Pusteria
valley – there are no limits for sportsmen. Those looking for even more
excitement can join dizzying hang-gliding or thrilling rafting
trips.
With all the many amenities that the summer in the holiday region East
Tyrol has to offer, it also has to be said that the winters in
the south of Austria are just as promising as the summers. A few hundred
kilometers of cross-country ski-tracks and perfectly maintained
downhill runs, a biathlon centre and modern ski lifts make the
eyes of passionate cross-country skiers and snowboarders sparkle with
joy. Several glaciers and great ski resorts with ski kindergartens for
your children make for an unforgettable time in the snow – also a side
trip to South Tyrol’s Pusteria valley is a great alternative.
Furthermore East Tyrol offers its guests interesting insights into past
days and has a very rich culture. A variety of interesting cultural
events, museums like the museum of the city Lienz, the Bruck
castle or the Anras castle, communicate culture and tradition to the
visitors of this unique holiday region in Southern Austria.
